IAWRT-Kenya partners with media institutions, civil society organizations, and policy actors to promote gender-responsive and inclusive media systems. We support women media professionals to influence narratives, challenge discriminatory norms, and contribute to policy and public discourse that advances gender equality and social inclusion.
We design and deliver targeted capacity-building initiatives and mentorship programs that strengthen the skills, safety, and leadership of women and girls, with a strong focus on women journalists and media practitioners. Through strategic partnerships, our programs enhance professional competencies, digital resilience, and ethical media practice, contributing to sustainable participation in the media sector and journalism institutions.
We conduct collaborative, evidence-based research on priority thematic areas affecting women in media, including gender representation, media freedom,Technology, Artificial Intelligence, digital rights, and technology-facilitated violence. Our research informs advocacy, policy engagement, and programmatic interventions at national, regional, and global levels.
IAWRT-Kenya implements structured coaching and mentorship programmes that support the professional growth and leadership pathways of women in media. Working with experienced practitioners, institutions, and regional networks, we facilitate knowledge transfer, peer learning, and career advancement opportunities for emerging and mid-career professionals.
We advocate for the protection and promotion of women’s rights, particularly the rights and safety of women journalists and media workers. In collaboration with human rights bodies, regulators, and policy stakeholders, we work to strengthen legal, policy, and institutional frameworks that promote accountability, safety, and gender justice.
IAWRT-Kenya advances women’s empowerment by creating enabling environments that support women’s leadership, agency, and participation in media and public life. Through multi-stakeholder partnerships, we strengthen women’s economic, social, and professional opportunities, ensuring their voices are represented in decision-making processes.
IAWRT-Kenya convenes and strengthens networks that connect women media professionals, researchers, and advocates across Kenya and the globe. Through strategic partnerships and collective action, we ensure collaboration, knowledge exchange, and solidarity to amplify impact and advance gender equality in and through the media
